About Reverse PDF
This tool does one job: it turns the page sequence around. Page 1 moves to the end, the last page moves to the front, and everything in between follows, so a 12-page file comes out as pages 12, 11, 10 and on down to 1. There are no ranges to type and no thumbnails to drag.
The usual culprit is a scanner or copier. If a stack goes into the feeder the wrong way up, or is fed in last page first, the machine faithfully records it in that order and the PDF opens on the final page. Moving pages one at a time would take ages on a long document; reversing fixes all of them at once.
The pages themselves are not altered. Each one is copied into the new file as it was, keeping its text layer, its image resolution and its orientation. The page count doesn’t change, and the file comes out about the same size as the one you started with.
How to use Reverse PDF
- Add your PDFDrop in the backwards PDF or choose it with the file picker. The page thumbnails let you confirm that the order really is reversed before you change anything.
- Reverse the orderClick the reverse button once. The last page moves to the front and the first page to the back; nothing else about the pages changes.
- Download the resultSave the reversed PDF. It goes straight to your downloads, and the backwards original stays where it was in case you need it.
When people use it
A stack fed in face down
You scan a 25-page contract and the PDF opens on the signature page. Reverse it, and page 1 is the cover again, with every page in between back in sequence.
A printout that stacked last page on top
Some printers deliver pages face up, so the final page ends up on top of the pile. Scan that pile as it is and the file runs backwards; one reversal sets it straight.
Newest pages first in a long export
A statement or log exported oldest-first can be flipped so the latest page leads, which is handy when only recent activity matters. Keep in mind that the entries within each page stay in their original order.
Fronts and backs scanned separately
A two-sided stack on a one-sided scanner is often scanned in two passes: all the fronts, then the stack is flipped and all the backs follow, in reverse. Reversing the whole file won’t interleave those pages, because the fix needs fronts and backs to alternate. For ten sheets, the fronts are pages 1–10 and the backs are 11–20 running from sheet 10 back to sheet 1, so the correct order is 1, 20, 2, 19, 3, 18 and so on. Enter that list in Split PDF using Extract pages mode, which keeps pages in the order you type them, or drag them into place with Rearrange PDF.
Picking between reverse and the other page-order tools
| Tool | What it does to the order | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Reverse PDF | Flips the whole document in one click | Files that are backwards from first page to last |
| Rearrange PDF | Moves any page to any position, and has its own Reverse order button | Mixed fixes, such as reversing and then moving one stray page |
| Split PDF, Extract pages mode | Writes pages in the order you type; 5-1, 6- reverses only the first five | Reversing part of a file |
Merge PDF joins files end to end in the order you list them but never flips the pages inside a file, so reverse a backwards scan before merging it with other documents.
What stays the same after the flip
- Page content and quality. Nothing is redrawn or compressed, so text remains selectable and scans stay as sharp as they were.
- Orientation. Reversing the order isn’t the same as rotating. A page that was upside down is still upside down; turn it with Rotate PDF.
- Printed page numbers. Numbers printed on the pages don’t change. In a backwards scan that is exactly what you want, since they will now count up correctly.
- Document extras. Bookmarks are not carried into the reversed copy, fillable form fields may stop working, and the title and author properties may be empty.
Limits
Password-protected PDFs have to be unlocked with Unlock PDF before they can be reversed, and you need the password to do it. Very large scans are held in memory while the tool works, and that is easier on a computer’s memory than on a phone’s.
The file is reversed inside your browser and is never sent to a server; after the page loads, even a dropped connection won’t interrupt it. To check for yourself, follow the steps on our privacy page.
